Lucca’s Italy inspired nursery
Since we already had all the furniture in place for the baby’s arrival (Samuel’s crib, dresser and chair), all I needed to worry about was decor for our brand-new, baby #2. Given we were waiting till birth (this time) to find out the gender, I went to my trusty side kick, Pinterest, to get some ideas on the potential themes for a boy or a girl. If we had another little man, it was going to be a woodland inspired nursery, but for a little lady I decided on an Italian motif. Italy is known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm, welcoming culture. I wanted a nursery that embodied that charm and elegance, especially since the name we chose for her was Lucca, after Lucca, Italy (where my great aunt was born who lived beautifully to the century mark).
I was able to get everything ordered the day after I gave birth from the comfort of my hospital bedroom thanks to online shopping (and knowing exactly what I was going to order prior to baby’s arrival - I may be a bit type A). To create a cozy and calming atmosphere, I selected a color palette of soft pastels, like blush pink, dusty rose and creamy whites, paired with warm earth tones. I found a soft pink rug on Wayfair that was perfect for what I had in mind. Her striped soft pink crib sheets were ordered from Target and lemon blanket, which I often find myself using during middle of the night feedings, is from The Styled Collection. While Lucca was in my belly, her big brother often referred to her as baby Olive, so I found this olive tree from Target that fit perfectly with the theme.
The wall decor in her room is my favorite part. When my Nona passed away, a few years ago, I took a few items that I thought were beautiful and would also look nice in a baby girls’ room, if I were lucky enough to have one. The rose hand painted lamp and two paintings of flowers are all from my great aunt, my Nona’s sister, who was a talented artist. The frames were gold, but I decided a creamy white would be better and spray painted them to go along with the overall color scheme. I also added the mirror, above her changing table, from my Nona’s home, which is gold with flowers around the edge. As for the pictures above the crib I found an amazing lady on Etsy who added Lucca’s name to each Italian themed images.
I am hoping her bedroom is fun and calming enough that some day, in the not so distant future, it will entice her to move out of her parents’ room and into her nursery (although I suspect that transition is somewhat far away given our love affair with this precious baby girl and our desire to hold her tight and keep her close).
