Hospital bag for baby #2

I remember packing for the hospital with Samuel and felt completely clueless on what to bring with me. Even after talking with so many friends there were things that I brought which I needed and things I would never pack again. Packing for this delivery I felt a little more prepared. Not everything I packed was necessary but it’s nice to have some favorite items to make you feel more comfortable.

What I Packed

Mamma

  • Robe- I wore my robe a lot this time. I decided to get one that would not just look good in photos but was also comfortable— Mason Grey Stars Robe

  • Pajamas- Something comfortable that buttons, especially if breastfeeding- Target button down Pajamas

  • Going home outfit- Since I had both kids in the summer I packed a loose dress to wear home that was comfortable and cute

  • Slippers- You will mostly wear the hospital socks but it is nice to have your own slippers that are a little more comforatable adn cozy- Amazon slipper sock

  • Underwear

  • 2 comfy loose bras- you will want to be able to nurse in them and these from Soma worked great for me- Soma Bralette comfy bra

  • Olay Make up wipes, face lotion and deodorant,

  • Rose facial spray- with the dryness of the hospital I found it very refreshing to have this next to my bed and spray for a little pick me up.

  • YSE your favorite ex pads and Skin Glow- necessary, no, but did these make me feel better after being in a hospital a couple days, yes.

  • Makeup- I brought a small bag of makeup for photos and to be able to feel ready when going home

  • Hair ties and hair brush

  • Chapstick- between the dryness of the hospital and nursing you will need this- Amazon EOS Chapstick

  • Your favorite travel shower items- Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash/razor/toothpaste. I was able to shower twice in the hospital this time so I was glad to have my own products with me.

  • Pillow from home

  • Phone charger

Baby

  • 2 sets of pajamas- I didn’t really use these but good to have a couple onesies just in case

  • Baby going home outfit- mine this time was given as a gift at our baby shower. For Samuel I used an outfit from Caden Lane. There baby items are adorable and comfy for baby.

  • Baby Announcement/picture props- We didn’t have an announcement sign this time since we weren’t sure if we were having a boy or girl but there are many options on Etsy

  • Baby blanket/Swaddles

  • Breast pump- Our lactation consultants at the hospital will help you if you bring in your own breast pump. May be helpful for first time moms

  • Car Seat- They won’t let you leave your hospital room without it so make sure to have the base installed properly before you get to the hospital so you are ready to go home when the time comes

Dad

  • 2 changes of clothes- Nice to have if you need dad to run out and grab something or for just walking around the hospital

  • Sweats/ hoody/pajamas- He was especially cold in the room so this was necessary

  • Pillow

  • Travel shower supplies/toothpaste and toothbrush/comb and hair products/hat

General

  • Reusable grocery bag- the hospital usually gives a ton of post partum care items as well as baby items. You will need something to get this all home in.

  • Sibling gift. Samuel had picked out a stuffed animal for Lucca and we told him that she would be bringing a gift for him. When he came to the hospital to meet her we had some small gifts waiting for him in the room from his little sister.

Gifts for Nurses

While this isn’t necessary I think it is a nice gesture to show appreciation to your nurses for the whole labor, delivery and recovery process. Second time moms will know that the nurses are really the stars of the show and will be with you round the clock to take care of you. I did this with both pregnancies and will tell you the nursing staff was excited to receive these. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy and can be pretty simple, here is what I used in our gift box.

  • Hair Ties

  • Chapstick

  • Candy

  • Snacks

  • Energy Drinks

  • Gift Cards

  • Hand written notes
