Amelia Island, Florida
Amelia Island, located off the coast of northeast Florida, is a hidden gem perfect for a family vacation. With it’s pristine beaches, history, and family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to relax by the ocean or explore the islands natural beauty and culture, here is how to make the most of your time on Amelia Island with your family.
We flew into Jacksonville airport, rented our car and headed straight to Amelia Island which is about and hour and a half drive. We decided to stay at the Omni Amelia Island because of their activities and proximity to everything we wanted to do.
REsort Living
While there are many places to stay on Amelia Island the Omni really checked all our boxes for this trip. Between location and amenities I couldn’t think of a more perfect place for our family to have stayed. You’ll have plenty to do at both the resort and around the island.
Pool- The Omni has two oceanfront pools, including a large family pool and splash area for kids. The other pool is adults only which is nice if you have some time to yourself to relax. They have private cabanas, a bar and restaurant service from your chair.
Beach- There is direct access to the beach with resort services and private chairs. There is 3.5 miles of beach so there is plenty of room to hang out or explore.
Golf- Golfers can take advantage of one of the 3 golf courses, Little Sandy, Oak Marsh Course, and Long Point Course. Since our little guy loves going to the golf course we decided on the short- 10 hole Little Sandy.
Amelia Island Nature Center- located at the resort this center offers educational exhibits about local wildlife, guided nature walks, and even fishing clinics. It’s a great way to learn about the islands ecosystem while also having fun.
Spa- for relaxation the spa offers massages, facials, and other treatments. They also have a wellness program including yoga and meditation sessions.
Hit the beaches
Amelia Island is known for its 13 miles of beautiful, uncrowded golden beaches with tall sea grass dunes. The wide soft sand beaches are ideal for kids to play and explore, you can spend your day building sandcastles, swimming, and collecting seashells and shark teeth with kids, while also spotting wildlife like dolphins. Some of the best family friendly beaches include:
Main Beach Park- ideal for families as this park has playgrounds, picnic areas and mini golf nearby. Amenities are great and has a very lively atmosphere.
Peters Point Beachfront Park- Another great options that has wide stretches of sand and calm waters. This is better for those who prefer a quieter experience.
Visit Fort Clinch State Park
For a bit of history and outdoor activities head to Fort Clinch State Park. This park features a well-preserved 19th century Civil War fort and is fun to explore the biking and hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and fishing and beautiful beach.

Enjoy local food
There are so many amazing restaurants on Amelia Island but no visit would be complete without indulging in some fresh seafood. We tried a little bit of everything while out to eat but the seafood was indeed our favorite. Many restaurants offer family-friendly atmospheres, including playgrounds, and also kids menus. We loved them all but two of our favorites were Aloha Bagel & Deli and Timoti’s Seafood.
Amelia Island is a family vacation paradise with endless opportunities for fun, relaxation, and adventure. Whether you are lounging on the beach, exploring
